Abstract:

Ranbaxy is today one of the most respected pharmaceutical companies in India. The company's journey from its humble beginnings as a small pharmaceutical distributor company in the 1930s to its present position has involved vision, bold thinking and major strategic and organisational changes. Ranbaxy's brave initiatives in globalisation have impressed many observers. 2004 witnessed some major leadership challenges with the resignation of its Managing Director, DS Brar, a non-family member who had made a significant contribution to the company's global expansion.

Brar's resignation has triggered off the departure of a number of top management personnel. It remains to be seen how Ranbaxy will achieve its ambitious goals in the years to come.
